Func Defunct

Yesterday the cheques went in.
Numbers and money are not things I'm good with, neither is kissing ass, so I was relieved.
Most of yesterday afternoon was this:

But not for long since there was always some crisis around the corner. I hate the impending sense of doom more than I hate actual crises, those I can solve. The feeling is just something intangible that you can't fix.

Today I set off again, for "publicity" which involved me going from one college to another in South Campus, putting up posters and garnering "Kya hai yeh? Kyun hai yeh?" looks from people. Seeing some of the other places made me feel better about this place that we hate so much. At least ours doesn't look like a Kafkaesque sarkari daftar (though it functions like one, under the great Kalmadini) and it's kind of far away from every where else so the number of people you have to interact with is limited (funny how that was seen as a downside in first year). Also it has pretty much everything you need inside the campus (except a panwari). A quick summary of today.
Number of autos taken: 5
Number of cigarettes smoked: 7(?) 5 per auto and one before and after the work.
Number of colleges visited: 6
Number of strangers who were kind to me: 4
Number of times directions were asked: 15
ATM balance depleted by: 1000 rupees. Ok, this also includes "Introducing Marquis De Sade", this little graphic guide sort of thing I found in the stationary shop. It's so cute! Also, Namits sent me this link for a book jacket designer's website and I've been on a book cover trip. So since we're on the Marquis:

Reading through that book gave me an overpowering urge to re-watch this:
Which is a pretty intense and sexy film, and also kind of sweet. Maggie Gyllenhaal has this old school appeal about her. And James Spader is a master at the art of being creepy and sexy at the same time. I loved this scene:
Oh, and on a completely different tangent, I found this while looking for Secretary on google images.
Isn't she beautiful? And  totally genderfluid. She looks like Tilda Swinton and David Bowie.

Soundtrack thread:
You might have noticed from my Last.fm charts that I'm going back to my old loves Nine Inch Nails these days. And from there this morning I went onwards to Saul Williams who had collaborated with them. Check out his spoken word stuff, always has me holding my breath (and he's hot, too). Speaking of spoken word, you should check out Jeet Thayil who Dev and I love, who also plays in a band called Sridhar Thayil (The Sridhar is Suman Sridhar who I have a major crush on, her smile makes my heart explode)

Digable Planets were calming me along my quick tour of the South Delhi colleges.

And on the way back I was kickin' it with the Ruler, Slick Rick
I love his even and smooth voice with just the hint of a British twang. And of course his wise words like "Treat her like a prostitute" (as well as this)

Now as the time for me to finally crawl, exhausted into my bed comes closer, I'll want Tricky (next to me! Just fucking look at him)

in my head saying

Yeah, I've seen that picture. She looks a bit like Erika Mann, but this woman was a secretary at a West Berlin radio station.
