T&S

So, Thursday.
Ladies night ("every night is ladies night with me, baby!") at TC where we're pre-gaming and eating. "Free2drink for ladies, do not share with boys." Kamikaze, wine, beer, cosmos etc, why don't we come here more often? Shanno and I are reminiscing about coming here for gigs when we were in school. We ravenously devour our food, quickly drink all the previously mentioned beverages. We're avoiding annoying acquaintance and hiding near the bathroom.
We're listening to Kishore Kumar songs in the auto and singing loudly and making grand declarations of friendship. The autowalla looks bemused and bewildered as to why these strange girls in awesome clothes are talking like drunk-senti Punjabi uncles all of the sudden.
So we're at Hard Rock and by now pretty broke ass. As usual, we see a million people we vaguely know (and a few who we actually know). Discussing "oh she's so and so's friend" and "he's so and so's boyfriend"
and "isn't that the guy from that band"?
We're having a smoke as Vivek Shraya comes on.

That's him. I don't have any clear pictures of him because he was bouncing around a lot. He plays synth-pop-electro sort of stuff. He seemed a bit nervous but he was pretty decent. I didn't really register most of it because I was in the smoking section for a while and talking to some of my friends, but I did remember this song I had heard before. Apparently he has a collection of short stories out too.
The soundcheck for Tegan and Sara took a while, I was again in the smoking section and heard the false-alarm screaming several time before they came on to play. The girls-college gang and I (glad to see so many girls at the gig. Screaming and singing along and totally checking out T&S) came up front and they started their set. Setlist etc@NH7 The first 5 songs are all big favourites of mine. They didn't play stuff from their first album, though. I liked that one because it's different from their other stuff, sort of 90s and funky...it has its own sort of swagger. Someone requested 'Proud' and Tegan laughed saying something like "Here too? Everywhere, its Proud!". I do wish they had played 'First' and 'Freedom', though, that would have been kick ass. Also missing, 'Monday Monday Monday'. But it was a really good setlist, stuff from most albums. The Con and Sainthood. Starting with Living Room was an awesome choice! And Walking with a ghost was just brilliant. Everyone was super happy to be there. "Good vibes" and all. Between songs the two were talking about how their stomachs were fucked, their mom (the pretty lady who was sitting next to the stage beaming Nirupa Roy-ishly at her kids), drunken phonecalls to each other.
Pictures! Click for big. They're not very good ones, but whatever.

Playing with them was their friend Ted.

This is him. He was being a bit ignored because all the men and women there were looking at the twins. They did run off as soon as their set was over, I was standing next to the stage when they came down and they smiled as they passed by, instant heart melt.
Other characters were dude who thought Kaveri was cool, dude who thought Shanno's hat (actually it's K's hat) was nice, bald man whose head features in most of my pictures, a whole bunch of girls who thought Vivek Shraya was cute (I don't think they knew he was gay), a few men and women I was checking out but don't really remember.
When we emerged from the mall it was beautiful and misty and deserted. K was doing her fierce walk and a nice gay man said "OMG! I love your strut! Let's do it together! 5...6...7...8 Work it work it!". It was just the BEST ever. I love happy post-gig camaraderie. I was tripping out on the mist and taking shitty pictures like woah.
Look! Misty!

We wander around looking for our cab, get in, fucking hungry. Go to 24x7 , get hotdogs and Ramen and chips as one does on such nights. Drop A home, get back to Shanno's. I for some reason have decided to be the chef tonight and make the Ramen (usually I'm not allowed into the kitchen) which mostly goes waste (it wasn't bad though, as I'm told). I'm drinking Johnny Walker black from one hand and rasam from the other and dancing around in the kitchen. Shanno cockteases Kavya's homesick rasam craving by accidentally putting golgappa water into her plate. Must you torment her so? S is wearing the fluffy hat and dancing to Justin Bieber's Baby. I hate prepubescent abomination with all my heart, but that song is the best thing to dance to when you're stoned. It's fucking hilarious. But it sucks when its stuck in your head for 2 days after. We're watching Glee songs and singing once more with a feeling. Droopy eyed Kavya falls off to sleep (not before inflicting Savage Garden senti on us), my brotha Dev and I smoke another and drift off into sleep. End up not going to college the next morning, spend another lazy afternoon at home watching Taking Woodstock. The frustrations of exam fuckery is lifted atleast for a day.
